Taking care of your child when you are sick

It's hard to be a sick mommy. I can call in sick to work, but not to my 18 month old daughter who wants her momma. I don't usually get sick. I get a cold maybe once a year, and that is all. It lasts about three days, with maybe a light cough lasting a week more. Not this time. For the first time ever, I went to the doctor for a cold. It has lasted for a week so far and the cough is getting worse. The doctor said the cold turned into a sinus infection and gave me five medicines to take that should clear it up in a few days. The medicine is finally ready at the pharmacy.

Before I had my daughter, I could sleep off an illness in a day. This time I had to get up with her at 8 AM almost every day after restless nights full of coughing and blowing my nose. The doctor said, lack of rest is why I got it so bad this time.

Below are some things I tried to make it easier to care for my daughter:

1. Napping while she naps-- If I could only fall asleep!

2. Keeping her in her play area while lounging on the couch.

3. Putting her favorite show on T.V.

4. Making easy meals.

5. Avoiding speaking out loud whenever possible.

I only wish I had gone to the doctor sooner to clear up this nonsense. Mom's, learn from my mistake. At the first sign that you are ill, get it taken care of before it gets worse. You will save yourself some misery!
