Taking a look at Dead Island 2 by new developer Yager

Hello fellow gamers. You are dressed to impress as you head out for your morning jog. There is no concern about this strange gash on your arm. As you continue your run down Sunset boulevard the zombie apocalypse is unfolding behind you, the camera does a quick spin and you are now the infected jogger. This was the teaser trailer for Dead Island 2 developed by Yager, a German game development company. The original developers of the series, Techland, have switched gears a bit and are focusing on their latest project Dying Light.

Yager has decided to take the strengths of the Dead Island series and build the game on that, which would be the multiplayer system. Unlike in the original where there was only four players on a team, there will now be eight players that exist constently in your game world. At any time you can choose to work with any one person or set of persons, or against them. Dead Island 2 is focusing on the users multiplayer experience.

With so much focus on this there is a slight concern about the story. Yager representatives have already suggested that there is no true end game because of their focus on drop in and out play style. You can get the full interview here on IGN’s youtube channel. This style of play puts gamers in the mind of Titanfall where the story is sacrificed to focus solely on multiplayer. With that being said, How do you feel about games that have a weak single player campaign but a great multiplayer experience? Can a game stand on Multiplayer alone?
