After attending a magical matinee preview screening of the classic Wizard of Oz in 3-D splendor at the amazing new TCL Chinese Theatre IMAX, we drove the short distance to bao Dimsum House in West Hollywood for lunch. It sort of kept the Asian theme alive.
Well, let me tell you, the food there is as good as any we ate in Hong Kong, it’s authentic and delicious. We enjoyed a selection of dim sum while sipping a fine Pinto Noir for the Diva and a Japanese beer for Richard (they don’t serve Chinese suds for some reason).
Anyhow my favorite was the crispy tofu cake with bao sauce, just yummy. But we both loved the chicken and spinach dumpling, the seamed BBQ pork bun and the mixed vegetable bun. All reasonably priced at $5.96 to $8.50.
There are lots of other choices on the menu which you can eat in or take out. You got soups (hot and sour, egg drop, wonton, sizzling rice with seafood), pan grilled dishes (radish cake with Chinese sausage, shrimp stuffed bell pepper) and more.
The room is soothing and attractive and the wait staff was excellent. It was the Diva’s first visit but Richard’s been a few times before. If you like dim sum and then some, you really need to go there, which is located at 8256 Beverly Blvd., www.baodimsum.com.
