Let me preface this by saying that I am not a coffee drinker. I was raised on tea, especially the peppermint kind. I can’t imagine life without toast, jelly and a steaming cup of Earl Grey. But I also can’t deny the look of glee I see on the faces of those who awake only after their first cup of java.

With this being National Coffee Month I would be remiss if I didn't cover how one could skip Starbucks and enjoy brewing at home. So what exactly makes this beverage so great other than its awakening effect? Well there have been studies that have found that it can help to protect against Parkinson's disease, type 2 diabetes and liver disease and decrease the risk of depression.

But it has also gotten a bad rap because there have been reports that have linked consumption of large amounts of unfiltered coffee to having mild elevations in cholesterol levels. And some studies have also found that the way we metabolize coffee can have an effect on our health, if we consume two or more cups of coffee a day.

As is the case with most things moderation is the key. So plug in your Keurig coffee machine and enjoy this August with these recipes below which feature the four most popular flavors Americans like to add to their cafe.

French Vanilla Morning Latte
Serving size: One serving

Heat 2 tablespoons of BAILEYS® Coffee Creamer French Vanilla on stove top or in microwave until hot.
Pour over coffee in clear barista mug; garnish with whipped cream.

Caramel Mochalicious
Serving size: One serving

Chocolatini Frappe
Serving size: One serving

Combine ice, a cup of coffee and 2 tablespoons of BAILEYS Coffee Creamers Chocolatini in a blender and process until it’s slushy. Top with whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately
