Takedown Wrestling Media has reached an agreement to expand distribution of its Takedown Wrestling and USA Wrestling Weekly programs via Time Warner SportsChannel in New York City, the Hudson River Valley, and in North and South Carolina, the Des Moines-based wrestling media organization announced Wednesday.
Effective immediately, both USA Wrestling Weekly and Takedown Wrestling weekly news programs will be available to the newly expanded audience in the northeastern and southeastern US. By serving these additional markets, the total number of homes receiving these wrestling news programs 52 weeks a year grows to 55 million homes, thus going a long way to help promote and grow the sport of wrestling.
The Takedown Wrestling weekly TV news program sprang from the original Takedown Wrestling radio program, covering collegiate wrestling and other levels of amateur wrestling. USA Wrestling Weekly was started in 2011 to inform sports fans of the efforts of US wrestlers competing in freestyle and Greco-Roman.
"Takedown Wrestling Media is excited to grow our partnership with Time Warner SportsChannel to keep fans up to date on the world of wrestling,” said Scott Casber, founder of Takedown Wrestling Media. “College and international styles alike will benefit from the wide and growing distribution of Time Warner SportsChannel."
Time Warner Cable Sports Sr. Director and General Manager Steve Arvan echoed those sentiments, saying, "We believe that the time is right to expand our wrestling news coverage. We see the sport of wrestling as being under-reported nationally and feel that by teaming with Takedown Media and USA Wrestling Weekly we can give Time Warner SportsChannel's grappling fans access to the finest worldwide wrestling coverage available."
James Ravannack, president of USA Wrestling, the governing body for Olympic-style wrestling in the US, sees the expansion of the Takedown Wrestling Media/Time Warner Sports Channel partnership as a winner for his organization and its athletes. “The increased coverage of USA Wrestling events and its athletes will serve to continue wrestling's growth especially in the south eastern United States. We're confident that wrestling's growth in the US and around the world will benefit from the increased coverage and expanded distribution from our relationship with Time Warner SportsChannel."
This latest distribution agreement between Takedown Wrestling Media and Time Warner SportsChannel continues and expands upon the original two-year-old distribution deal between the two companies. Time Warner SportsChannel and Takedown Wrestling Media anticipate adding additional markets in the coming months, according to their press statement.
