Takedown Wrestling’s Midlands preview with Northwestern’s Pariano, Herbert, more

In honor of the upcoming 2013 Ken Kraft Midlands, Takedown Wrestling this Saturday will feature former wrestlers and the current head coach from host school Northwestern University, the broadcast announced Wednesday.

Join Scott Casber, Dan McCool, Steve Foster, Jeff Murphy and Brad Johnson for Takedown Wrestling live this Saturday 9-11 a.m. Central and 10 a.m.-noon Eastern.

The 51st edition of the Midlands post-Christmas classic will take place at Northwestern’s Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston, Ill. on Sunday, Dec. 29 and Monday, Dec. 30. Title matches will be shown live on the Big Ten Network Monday at 8:00 p.m. Central.

Opening up Takedown Wrestling’s discussion on the Ken Kraft Midlands will be Drew Pariano, Northwestern head wrestling coach. At 9:20, the featured guest will be Dustin Fox, 2008 NCAA heavyweight champ for the Wildcats, who will be welcomed into Northwestern’s Athletics Hall of Fame in early 2014… followed at 9:35 by Jason Welch, 2013 Big Ten champ for Northwestern.

At 10:00 a.m., the always-quotable Jake Herbert takes the mic. One of the most decorated wrestlers in Wildcat history, Herbert is a past Midlands champ, two-time NCAA titlewinner, and member of the U.S. freestyle team at the 2012 London Olympics who now works with Andy Hrovat on youth wrestling initiatives in the state of Michigan. (If that weren’t enough, Herbert plays Oklahoma State wrestler Mike Sheets in the upcoming Foxcatcher movie.) At 10:20, it’s Brandon Precin, a three-time NCAA All-American for Northwestern who has his sights set on the 2016 Olympics.
