Bliss joined me and three friends over the weekend for a girls getaway to the beautiful Morro Bay, located on California's Central Coast just a few hours from Los Angeles. We stayed at the Morro Bay Inn, nestled on 4,000 acres of protected land. Boasting waterfront views of the Bay and beyond to the wind sculptured sand dunes that spread along the ocean, The Morro Bay Inn is truly a magical place.
When we entered the property, the 100-year-old Monterey Cypress trees took my breath away. Neighboring to the south, a Blue Heron Rookery added to the amazing ambiance, as the majestic birds soared above, singing their lovely songs. Bliss was excited when we entered our room because there was a bag of dog treats waiting to welcome her! The Inn left us a map of all the dog parks in San Luis Obispo County where Bliss could run without a leash.
The Inn offers 97 guest rooms in a handful of buildings constructed Cape Cod style, all with partial or full views of the Bay. Our room had a fireplace and French doors that opened onto a patio offering breath taking views. Watching the sunset dance on the water while the Blue Herons flew overhead gave me a new positive outlook on my entire life! Our room was so cozy and comfortable. The Morro Bay Inn pays attention to every detail - from the soft Egyptian cotton sheets to the lush goose down pillows. And the view! I didn't want to leave my room!
Every morning, I enjoyed an excellent cup of coffee and savored the most delicious blueberry muffin. The Inn's Bay View Restaurant is the perfect setting for dinner, featuring fresh seafood from one of Morro Bay's local fishing boats.
Morro Bay offered all of us a little slice of life in the slow lane. Don't get me wrong. There's a plethora of activities for all ages -- and even dogs- from hiking, biking, kayaking and more. We chose to experience the annual Community Yard Sale and even Bliss found some interesting things to buy including a huge stuffed yellow duck. There are many community events in Morro Bay and participating gave us an inside look at what it would be like to live there.
The Morro Bay Inn is centrally located, just 30 minutes from Hearst Castle, and wine tasting in the lush countryside of Paso Robles. We did visit the Castle but my room at the Morro Bay Inn was more than enough for me and my Bliss. I'm sure even billionaire William Randolph Hearts would recommend The Morro Bay Inn!
