Take the family to The Great Duck Derby at Mead Gardens

Head out to Mead Garden in Winter Park on Saturday, February 23, 2013 for a fun family event where ducks rule. Just in case anyone has any doubts, the famous Peabody Hotel Ducks will open the festivities by marching regally to the Amphitheater promptly at 10:00 a.m. when "The Great Duck Derby" will commence.

The pond at Mead Gardens becomes a sea of yellow when a series of rubber duck races take place throughout the day. These aren't just any rubber ducks, they are brightly and sometimes outlandishly decorated rubber ducks that slowly float across the water to reach the finish line.

Sponsors decorate over-sized ducks with themed decorations and logos. The Big Beautiful Duck Race is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. and ends when the first duck floats over the finish line. The public is invited to purchase and decorate smaller ducks to enter in one of the three family duck races to be held at 11:45 a.m., 12:20 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. at the pond. Ducks are $5.00 each or a Quack Pack of five ducks can be purchased for $20.00. Proceeds benefit the Mead Botanical Garden's educational programs.
