Take me out to the ballpark

How does a city become a sports and vacation Mecca for family and friends alike? That’s easy - start offiStock photo with a major league baseball team, add a theme park, a water park, and finish it off with a major league football team and you’ve got it – Arlington, Texas.

Arlington offers a wide selection of restaurants and hotels in close proximity to all the action and, while you will get stuck in traffic on a game day, all of the major venues are within a short driving distance of each other.

Melissa’s must-see, must-do places and events:
1. Rangers baseball stadium is an amazing venue with great ambiance. Baseball season is almost here so now’s the time buy a ticket for opening day and take in a game. Tickets go on sale this week and prices start at $6. I would recommend spending another $10 to get a behind-the-scenes look at this beautiful facility including the clubhouse, batting cages, press box and much more. There’s also a museum, gift shop, and a nice selection of restaurants for your dining pleasure. Oh, be sure to ask your guide if he knows Hoggy.
2. Olenjack’s Grill offers the ultimate dining experience. Located in Lincoln Square, it’s just minutes from both stadiums. Chef Olenjack prepares contemporary American cuisine using fresh, local ingredients. Try the French fries – they’re the best I’ve ever eaten!
3. Lincoln Square shopping plaza with its beautiful water fountain features a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Spend $40 at one of the merchants on a game day and you can park free for the game.

So, head to Arlington for a weekend vacation or take the kids to Six Flags on Spring break and, as always, check out the local Convention and business bureau for discounts.

Enjoy the spring weather thanks for being a loyal reader.
