Take it all in stroller stride

If you are a new mom you are likely asking yourself a myriad of questions.  One of those questions may be, "Where did these hips come from?", and a related question could be, "How in the world am I supposed to work out with a little one now in my life?".  You are not alone and the answer you are looking for, well, to the "work out" question that is, is Stroller Strides.

Stroller Strides is a local program created by moms, for moms.  It is a franchised operation and may local cities and neighborhoods across the country have programs.  Rancho Santa Margarita and Ladera Ranch have excellent programs so if you are looking to give this program a try after you read this article, they are good locations to start in.  You can, also, visit www.strollerstrides.com and type in your zip code to search for classes closer to your home.  Stroller Strides is a fantastic way to get in a challening one-hour workout two to three times a week without the worry of childcare.

Most Stroller Strides classes are held in local neighborhood parks, so nearby to your home that you may be able to walk to meet the group.  The group is hard to miss.  Simply look for the clan-like circle of moms, strollers, and kids and you have arrived.  Each class is led by an instructor who belts out strength training and cardio exercises to the group while children remain in their strollers and accompany you throughout the park for different exercises.  It truly is an invigorating workout that incorporates power walking, jogging, and intervals of body toning using exercise tubing, the stroller, and the park.  Yoga mats and light hand weights are, also, sometimes incorporated.  You will be sore in the days that follow.

If your little one starts to fuss, fear not, for the instructor steps in to rock the stroller or calm your child while you finish your set.  And, for those of you Mamma Grizzlies afraid of being even centimeters from your stroller, the instructor never leaves the strollers so someone is always at your child's side.  There is, of course, always the option of taking your stroller on all exercise drills, but when it becomes cumbersome and you feel comfortable, there is a solution and the instructors are more than helpful, kind, and vigilant to solve the problem.

Each Stroller Strides class is comprised of roughly ten to fifteen moms with their kids in tow.  Children ages six weeks to five years are allowed to ride along with mom.  So, when you can't get to the gym or afford a babysitter, this is the way to go.  Fees run an average of $55 per month for unlimited classes, but be sure to check with your local Stroller Strides contact for pricing in your area.

Being a new mom is tough and we all know there is a list of reasons why, but Stroller Strides is an answer for moms looking for a way to successfully work out without the worry of finding and paying for a babysitter.  Perhaps the most important aspect of Stroller Strides is the camaraderie.  While you work out you are able to chat with other new, or veteran, moms and pick up on tips and tricks for raising your own little one.  If anything, you leave with a sense not only of feeling physically renewed and stronger, but also of knowing that you are not alone in the craziness that is mommyhood.  In fact, many moms grab coffee together after Stroller Strides sessions and arrange play dates among their kids.

If you're a new mom desperate to get out of the house, exercise, and meet new friends, Stroller Strides is the way to go.  Enjoy the fresh air, the conversation, your baby, and a great workout!
