Take Five: An Interview with Bile

Founded in 1992, New York’s Bile play industrial metal. The band describe themselves as a “festering globule of audio terrorism—a bastardized synthesis of subversive values and deviant sophistication completely devoid of the mainstream pop culture.” The band’s latest full-length studio CD is titled Built to Fuck, Born to Kill. Bile performed on December 4 at Albuquerque’s Launchpad.

Bile have been around since 1992. What things have you seen in the industrial scene that please you today? What things have you seen in the scene that displease you?

Krztoff: “The scene is totally f*$ked. There are very few people helping one another to create a scene. I find a lot of selfish individuals trying to screw each other over for their personal gain. But there are those amazing few promoters we run into through our travels. Those are the humans we cultivate relationships with and continue to do shows with.

“It’s extremely difficult to find a good booking agent also when you are an underground band at our level. Any idiot can call a venue and book a show from wherever they live in the world. But to actually make it successful, that’s where many of them fall flat. The days of the agents who actually care for the bands and work for their best interests are gone.”

Tell me about your latest studio CD, Built to Fuck, Born to Kill. What can listeners expect to experience?

Krztoff: “I’ve been told and seen reviews that have called the new CD a throwback to the original BILE sound. But to me it’s just the music I continue to write. There was no conscious effort to go backwards, just a yearning to do the best I possibly can. I am happy with the final product. I’m working on a new CD already, so I feel I am totally in the zone.”

Bile performed at Albuquerque’s Launchpad on December 4. What did attendees experience at this show?

Krztoff: “BILE performed our first album, SuckPump, in its entirety—start to finish. Then some of our hits and fan favorites. Very heavy. Smoke. Lights. Strobes. Violent art.”

To those who are clueless, explain the phase “demonic electronic.”

Krztoff: “I create all my music with machines, guitars, distorted vocals, etc. BILE is the dark side of electronic music. I consider BILE what pop music in Hell might sound like.”

Bile have experienced their share of lineup changes throughout the years. How does the band address such changes and how to you feel such changes have affected the band’s core sound through the years?

Krztoff: “Not affected at all. I write 100% of BILE’s music and perform it all on the CDs myself. So the recordings don’t change at all.

“The live show changes with who we have in the band at the time. I always encourage every new player to put their own stamp on the show. But essentially, we are all playing BILE songs. I feel grateful to have had so many awesome persons in and out of the band over the years. It really helps it to not be boring.

“This tour consists of me (Krztoff) on vocals/guitar, Rachel Cunt on electronics, and R.H. Bear on vocals/bass. Also, occasionally Mindcage Rick on guitar and Brendin Ross on vocals/electronics. It’s a kick ass group of people.”
