Caregivers we often talk about how to enjoy your time when you are provided a windfall of a couple of hours to relax. I know that many times we are just tired. However, it is not always that easy to just go off to our room and read or take a nap. Many times in order to rest we must leave the house, and one of the best ways to beat being tired, when this happens is to go for a walk. Not a power walk, rather a walk to take deep breaths, see the birds, see the changes in the neighborhood or just to get out of the house. Another way to enjoy this time is to take a quick look in the entertainment section and maybe attend an event, say a quilt show, a car show, a garden show, a bridal show (great way to lift your spirits) or maybe a craft show.
I know around the county I live in, every Friday Night a different area has an Arts Walk. As the weather gets warmer and spring comes in, the nurseries will have flower displays and how nice to just walk among the flowers.
If you have the opportunity to schedule a time to be getting some relaxation, do it. However, use that time to do something for yourself. It’s alright to read or take a nap, but also spend some time out of the house and keep in touch with friends and relatives. There will be a time when we need to be out and we need to have friends and family to visit and know we are accepted just as we are.
I know you are tired and feel as though all you do is go here and there. A change of pace will allow you to sleep better tonight and maybe shape your thoughts a little differently. You must take care of yourself it is so important for all you do, these things cannot happen without you taking care of yourself.
