Summer in the city can be expensive. Admission fees. Parking. Dining. There are some free days at Chicago museums to take advantage of. Here are a few:

Chicago Children's Museum at Navy Pier is free on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

At the Art Institute of Chicago, children under 14 are always free.

Museum of Science and Industry has free admission days in September on the 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 for Illinois residents.

The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum is free on Thursdays for Illinois residents.

Lincoln Park Zoo is free every day.

Museum of Contemporary Art is free every Tuesday for Illinois residents.
