Rediscover the true meaning of Christmas at Damascus Road Community Church. As a free event, open to the public, visitors will have the chance to step back in time to the days of Jesus and take a “Walk Through Bethlehem” this Friday.
On Dec. 17, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., visitors will have the chance to rediscover the true meaning of Christmas. Take a stroll through a recreated town of Bethlehem and relive the night when Jesus was born. The story of the miraculous birth, presented by Speaker/Coordinator Jeannie Foss, will be presented through both dialogue as well as a tour through the site.
Live actors and animals will be present in a stable setting and throughout the Bethlehem display. In all there will be seven nativity stations. Other activities during the event will include hot refreshments, hay rides, a petting zoo and a bonfire to keep the holiday spirit warm.
Restoring the true spirit of Christmas is the driving force behind this set up. As Damascus Road Community Church explained, “CHRIST – MAS originally had nothing to do with massive commercialism and stress. It centered on the belief that an infinite God entered human history as a Child in a stable and a Savior on a cross. If this isn’t true – then the whole story doesn’t really matter. If it is – nothing else matters as much. That birth changes everything. It defines us whether we believe it or not.”
The Church is dedicated to restoring the true meaning of Christmas and what it means to be a Christian. “We here at Damascus Road Community Church will join Christian churches all over the world as “co-conspirators” committed to giving gifts that really will change the world – like quality time, providing clean water to third-world children, feeding the hungry, taking care of orphans, and looking for way to be more loving. It’s not just about saving money or about this economy; it’s about remembering that our presence is a far more important gift than presents.”
In addition to this special holiday happening, the Church will hold a special worship celebration on Sunday, Dec 26, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Oakdale High School. This day-after Christmas celebration will include music specials by the Holy Rain musicians and “busy bags” provided for young children to keep interested.
The Walk Through Bethlehem will occur at 12120 Rosswood Drive, New Market, MD 21770. For more information, visit www.damascus.com.
