It’s time to get inspired. As we watch the Nation’s best compete for the gold, we should use this time to find inspiration to reach our own goals. It’s summer, it’s hot, and who wants to go outside to do anything, right? Now is the perfect time to leave the comfort of our couches and air-conditioning and take up a new sport or the hobby you’ve been meaning to start for the last few years. What’s holding you back?

Our athletes have spent their lives training and disciplining themselves for a chance to stand on that podium. It only comes once every four years for them. What better way to show our support than to use their inspiration to better ourselves and become more active? We all have the desire to learn a new sport or take up a hobby, so why not start now? Find that drive and quit postponing.

You may ask yourself, “All of this talk is great, but where do I start?” Well, you know those grimy tennis shoes you only pull out for yard work and the occasional walk around the block? It’s time to put them to use. If you have a dog, take him to that park near the house. He will love you for it. Walking isn’t the only way to get active though. It can be as simple as taking a bike ride, shooting some hoops, or playing catch. It’s also a perfect way to get your kids off the computer and out of the house.

Watching the Olympics shouldn’t be the only way we support our athletes and country. We need to take the initiative and become active so there will always be a reason for them to compete. If the Olympians can push their bodies to the limit, then why can’t we support them by getting out and getting active?
