Take a holiday shopping break with an amazing $28 Prix Fixe lunch at Fig & Olive

My friend Marian and I were out Christmas shopping today and took a break for lunch at Fig & Olive. We’ve both been there before but didn’t expect the three-course $28 Prix Fixe lunch. It sounded so yummy we both ordered it thinking it would be small tasting plates. But no. Each beautifully presented platter was filled with gorgeously prepared food.

Foodies that we are we shared each course starting with a most delicious beef carpaccio that was just the right amount of raw and topped with tomatoes, parmesan, while truffle oil and a sprinkle of 18-year-old balsamic vinegar. We also dug into a large salad of fresh figs, apple, manchego, gorgonzola, tomatoes, walnuts, olives, romaine lettuce dressed with Arbequina olive oil.

Our entrees were a outstanding Spanish cod a la Andalucia with zucchini, fennel, tomatoes, cjickpeas, verdial olives, oregano, garlic, lemon and Picual olive oil that was just delicious. Marian had the chicken Tajine which is a Moroccan style chicken done with figs, olives, apricots, carrots, zucchini, cipollini, onions, tomatoes, toasted almonds, couscous and Hojblanca olive oil. It was spiced just right and wonderful. In case you don't know, the restaurant is known for its ginormous variety of olive oils (ergo the name).

For dessert we had “Crostini”, which are shortbread cookies with these tasty Italian, chocolate-flavored cherries, strawberries, vanilla mascarpone and balsamic vinegar, and chocolate pot de crème done with crunchy praline financiers and vanilla cream. Remember all this for just $28 and a few hours penance at Crunch to work it off.

If you’re out shopping on Melrose Avenue or nearby Beverly Center be sure to plan a stop at Fig & Olive for lunch or if not the Aperitivo Happy Hour that happens daily from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and includes $7 tasting plates and $9 cocktails and wine selections.

Fig & Olive is located at Melrose Place and La Cienega Blvd., in West Hollywood, 310-360-9100.
