If you are considering a fall escape from Los Angeles, consider a drive to wine-drenched Paso Robles. It’s an easy drive up the coast and inland that takes maybe three or four hours. As you hit the area you pass acres of colorful vineyards until you reach the town with its quasi-quaint restaurants (the food’s better than you’d expect) and boutiques.
Whether you head up in the fall or go later in the year, you’ll find plenty of interesting diversions such a the Sunset Savor the Central Coast food and wine extravaganza on September 26 to September 29 that
showcases the area’s rich agricultural and aqua-cultural bounty. You can jump into seminars, go to special dinners, watch food demos and more. On Saturday night, September 28, Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat is performing at Vina Robles Amphitheatre for the inaugural Sunset in the Vineyard event.
Then on October 19 through the 21st it’s the Harvest Wine Weekend with more than 130 wineries on hand offering special barrel tastings, blending seminars, grape stomping, food and wine pairings, live music and more.
October 28 ushers in the Paso Robles Harvest Marathon, a full marathon, two-person marathon relay and 5k. The courses start and finish at Le Vigne Winery and offer beautiful views of the Paso Robles countryside and vineyards at harvest time.
December 14 is a free Vine St. Victorian Showcase that takes place along 13 blocks of Vine Street in Paso Robles close down for a night to welcome the crowds of 15,000 plus enjoying out the beautifully restored Victorian houses, bedecked with sparkling Christmas lights and decorations galore.
