From fishing to hiking, the Creole Nature Trail is 180 miles of wildlife, allowing visitors to learn about the byways through informational kiosks and organized rest stops.

"It's like being out in nature, not in a controlled environment like a zoo," said Anne Taber Klenke, Creole Nature Trail/Adventure Tourism Director for Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau. "You are exploring and venturing out on your own terms."

Klenke encourages visitors to take advantage of the app to hear the stories behind the ares around the Creole Nature Trail. It's a great way to take in the sights without reading a tour guide.

On an given day, the vast land does not show crowds or hordes of people. Klenke admits running into one or two people at any one time but it's a rare sight. International visitors have included those from Germany and Japan, learning more about the byway and its ecosystems.

Highlights

  • More than 400 extraordinary birds inhabit this peaceful haven. The Creole Nature All-American Road is a major resting and eating stop for rare songbirds and millions of butterflies.
  • This trail offers a unique and memorable experiences for every outdoorsman. The trail offers hunting seasons for duck, geese, deer, wild dove and other game.
  • Lake Charles/Southwest Louisiana is the festival capital of the state with more than 75 festivals and events throughout the year.

Duration: It takes a minimum of four hours to drive the trail without long stops. It takes a day to wander through this pristine byway of different ecosystems.
