If you grew up in the 90's, an air of nostalgia may have hit you this weekend as not one, but two of the stars from the beloved television show "Boy Meets World" got hitched to their significant others. That's right; Topanga Lawrence and Shawn Hunter both said their "I Do's" a day apart from each other.
Danielle Fishel (Topanga) married her fiancé Tim Belusko on October 19th in a Cathedral in Los Angeles with over 200 of her friends and family in attendance. Rider Strong (Shawn) had a decidedly different venue for his nuptials with fiancee Alexandra Barreto. Their wedding took place at a Summer Camp in Oregon that included having the wedding party sleep in cabins!
Contrast those to another wedding recently in the news. Engaged for four years, Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell were married October 16th in a Beverly Hills County Clerk's office that has been described as "no frills" and "low key."
While one can not always look to celebrities to set an example in all things, these recent weddings are a great reminder that a wedding should reflect what the bride and groom want for themselves without trying to please everyone else. It is easy to lose sight of the purpose of the wedding, especially for those currently in or joining the military. But when the going gets tough, the wedding guests aren't the ones wading through the waves of life. Remember that the wedding is just a day, while the marriage is a lifetime.
So whether you want the traditional experience, something to reflect your fun side, or just want the paper that shows you are legally married... do it!
