Taisha Bethea rocks 'American Idol' audition

Aspiring recording artist Taisha Bethea rocked "American Idol" with an unexpected audition Wednesday.

Leaving her band behind, Bethea auditioned with two songs, including a rendition of Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know."

Both songs impressed much of the judging panel, including Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban.

"There's something about your voice and the way you perform," Urban said of Bethea.

While Keith Urban enjoyed Bethea's style, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey felt that it was hard to really tell if she was the rock artist that she claimed to be.

"I'm not sure I can wrap my head around it just because you're doing different songs and I'm getting confused. Are you really a rock girl?" said a confused Carey.

Nicki Minaj disagreed with Carey.

"I like your voice. I like your style. I don't really care for you to make a decision as to what kind of music you like. It wouldn't even matter to me. I feel like your voice is unique, especially because you're a Black girl. You're not doing typical R&B runs," said Minaj. "I really, really enjoyed it."

Despite what Nicki Minaj said, both Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson voted to send Taisha Bethea home. Fortunately for her, Keith Urban joined Nicki Minaj in voting to keep her and his vote ended up being the deciding vote since it was a tie.

Taisha Bethea will now move on to the Hollywood round of the competition, where she will have another chance to perform and perhaps impress Mariah Carey and Randy Jackson.
