With 85 years of saving cats and dogs, on Long Island, Little Shelter Animal Rescue knows a lot about what it takes to be a survivor. Perhaps that is why they have so much love for Vladimir the cat and Donut the dog, both of which survived incredible cruelty, pain and fear without losing their enthusiasm for life and the ability to love humans.
Vladimir was found staggering down a road with his left eye covered in blood. He was also so emaciated that he remained in critical condition for days.
The Shelter also reported that when Donut was brought in his throat had been slashed. As one animal control officer put it, “someone tried to kill him, but didn’t do a very good job of it.”
Today his wounds have healed and he is a happy fellow with a wagging tail. And while Vladimir’s eye had to be removed, “he trots about the cattery just hoping someone will come and give him a new loving home.”
