Tailgating in fine cocktail style at Detroit's Ford Field

See also

Sure, football season is (mostly) over. But it's good to keep in mind for next season/upcoming events that the tailgating action outside Detroit's Ford Field is hot! Even in cold weather! Of course, I'm sure there's a certain kind of electricity when the Lions are playing that's hard to match, but superfans of bands have their own kind of energy, too.

El-Wood Bar and Grill -- a true Art Deco era diner -- was moved a short distance from its original location to between Comerica Park and Ford Field. Sure, it fills up quickly and thoroughly . . . so they have an ingenious solution. Their adjoining parking lot is cleared for enclosed tailgating space! They have vendors selling snacks, beer and their famous Bloody Marys, garnished with green olives. You can keep out of the elements while having a tailgate experience.

There are several food trucks outside the stadium, some of which are vegetarian and also, locally sourced noshes.

When I was there, Roary, the Detroit Lions mascot was walking around . . . but he was reluctant to pose with those wearing Ravens purple!

A little doggie dressed like Roary was chilly in the winter weather, but lapping up the attention.
