The list was assembled by Katie Doyle, who writes for About.com. Heavenly Mountain Resort was one of the story’s eight ski resorts world wide. Only two other U.S. ski resorts made the list – Big Sky in Montana and Jackson Hole in Wyoming.
Here’s what Doyle wrote about Heavenly.
Nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine lake in North America, with its origins tracing back to the Ice Age. Situated on the border between California and Nevada, the lake is a true gem - both literally, being a major tourist attraction for both states, and figuratively, thanks to its crystal clear waters.
Many a visitor has claimed that Lake Tahoe is like nothing else in the world. Heavenly Mountain Resort is the largest jewel in the crown of the Lake Tahoe region, offering almost 5,000 skiable acres and panoramic views.
Squaw Valley is a close second, and there are many other resorts to peruse, too - from the small, 30-trail Diamond Peak, whose incredible views might just make it a diamond in the rough, to the iconic Kirkwood Mountain Resort, widely known for its unique ridge line and hefty year-round snowfall.
