Taekwondo is a martial art style from Korea. It teaches discipline, self defense and leadership in children and adults alike. The participation in Taekwondo promotes aerobic and anaerobic activities. Meditation and stretching is incorporated to give this discipline a well rounded fitness technique. It even teaches desired life skills such as respect, self-confidence, manners, and ethics. This discipline of martial arts has a large following and can be a fun family activity or even a competitive passion depending on how involved you want to get.

While learning this new discipline a member will move up in belt color until they reach the black belt. The black belt is obtained by advancing through practice and demonstration through degrees of the various belt colors until you reach the black belt. After that there are varying degrees of black belts to work through. There are tests on the physical aspect of the martial art as well as the spiritual and history of the discipline.

There are competitions to demonstrate the learned skills. Since 2000 Taekwondo has been an Olympic event as well. Starting something like this with the entire family can create healthy quality time that includes many aspects of total wellness. Who knows it may even foster an Olympic athlete. It is a discipline that is continuing to enrich lives and create healthy environments for the people that participate.
