Last night as the Crone of the year said her good byes and we prepared to welcome the Maiden of the new year a Mother in Tacoma set fire to her home while her children were upstairs. Although frightened, one of the children called a relative on Dec. 31, 2012 after dark and told them that the house was on fire and that the other children were hiding in an upstairs closet. How brave for such a young person. Surely the goddesses that are known to protect children, such as Bast, Artemis, and Gaia, were looking out for them and helping to guide them through this terrifying event. Their story came out shorty after the event was contained.
A spokesperson for the Tacoma police department said that the Mother was distraught over a possible act or acts of infidelity by her husband, who was not home at the time of the fire. In reaction to that she started a fire to destroy the family home and the family on the rug in the first floor of their home located in the 3800 block of East J Street. Why an act of infidelity would drive a woman to do such horrors may never be known. Clearly in these moments the woman could not have been thinking with the mind of a Mother.
Once the children knew that their home was on fire and that something was clearly wrong with their Mother one of the children went for the phone and the other for a closet to hide. The call went out to a family member of the children who immediately called the fire department. With the fire department on the way the Mother put out the fire just before fire crews arrived at the scene.
Luckily for everyone involved no one was seriously injured, although one child was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The Mother was arrested at the scene and Child Protective Services confirms that the children are now in the care of their Father. These children are lucky but sadly they will always remember this New Year’s Eve and likely think about it every year from here on.
