Tacoma, Wash.Superior Court Judge John McCarthy sentenced George Harris to 30 days in jail, and imposed a lifetime ban against ever owning or be in possession of another animal after Harris pleaded guilty to one count of first degree felony animal cruelty on Thursday.
According to the NewsTribune.com, Harris pleaded guilty to throwing his neighbor's nine-month-old Chihuahua named Baby Jerry out of a second floor window in August.
The puppy, owned by Martha Tigner, hit the concrete sidewalk and suffered a fractured leg.
Judge McCarthy also ordered Harris to reimburse the puppy's owner for veterinarian expenses.
In his defense, Harris told authorities, Tigner had burglarized his apartment the previous day, and that is why he threw the puppy out the window. There was no evidence of any robbery.
With time served, Harris is expected to be out of jail by the end of next week.
Baby Jerry is reported to be doing well.
