Check out the newest reason to get up in the morning...Waffle Taco!

Thursday, March 27 marks a momentous occasion for both the fast food industry, and the consumer world in general. Today was the first day that Taco Bell breakfast was available. In case anyone missed it, all years from here on out will no longer be designated as AD (Anno Domini), but AWT for "After Waffle Taco".

Taco Bell is the latest fast food player to try and make a move for early morning traffic from hungry commuters. With an increasingly busy population, it only makes sense for them to try to grab a slice of the fast food breakfast market. They are rolling out an extensive menu, including many interesting items. Here are some highlights from the Taco Bell Breakfast Menu:

  • The A.M. Crunchwrap: Available with sausage or egg, this item looks similar to their existing Crunchwraps, with the addition of eggs.
  • Breakfast burritos: Already standard breakfast fare, it will be interesting to see how Taco Bell recreated this established item.
  • Cinnabon Delights: Small cream-filled minis that have the look of a Munchkin from Dunkin Donuts.
  • Waffle Taco: My personal favorite of the group, this clear shot at the Mcgriddle combines my love for tacos with my affinity for waffles of all kinds.

The items look to be a fresh approach to some standard breakfast items. By partnering with Cinnabon, and creating products similar to their already well-known items, Taco Bell looks to be making a strong effort to have you eating early in addition to their night time promotion of "Fourth Meal". There is also an extensive Twitter campaign going on to promote the new items. Look for #WaffleTaco.

So far the breakfast items have been very well received. So well received in fact, that Ronald Mcdonald himself gives his seal of approval for the new Taco Bell Breakfast items.
