The T-Yanks traveled to Joker Merchant Stadium on Saturday night for a double header against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The first game of the double header was the continuation of the game that had begun on July 4th. The second game was postponed and there is no word yet on when/if it will be played.
The original game began and quickly ended in the top of the 1st after just two batters. Branden Pinder (ERA 4.67) took the mound for the Tampa Yankees in the continuation of this game.
Pinder pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs; striking out 5. As the Tigers had a 3 run lead, the T-Yanks were finally able to get on the board in the top of the 4th. Cody Grice started the inning with a double that was then followed by a walk by Jose Toussen and then a single by Tyson Blaser to load the bases. A RBI single by Taylor Dugas sent Grice home and then a sac fly by Ali Castillo sent Toussen home to score and put the score at 3-2.
The Yanks were able to take a 5-4 lead as both Taylor Dugas and Peter O’Brien both hit doubles. But Tampa took and even larger lead as O’Brien was at it again with a triple this time as the Yanks took an 8-4 lead.
Alex Smith (ERA 9.00) took over the mound after Pinder and allowed 3 hits and 1 run in 2 2/3 innings of work. Joel De La Cruz (ERA 3.86) finished out the game for the Yanks but unfortunately allowed 3 hits and 6 runs by the Tigers in the bottom of the 8th for Lakeland to secure the win 10-8. De La Cruz was charged with the loss (3-3).
The Tampa Yankees will finish out the series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm at George M. Steinbrenner Field as Rafael De Paula (ERA 6.06, 1-2) taking the start.
