The Tampa Yankees traveled back to Joker Merchant Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take on the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the third and final game of the first series of 2013. Mikey O’Brien (ERA 5.79) took the mound for the T-Yanks.
Tampa’s O’Brien got off to a rocky start when the Tigers scored three runs in the bottom of the 2nd.
The T-Yanks struggled to get points on the board though there were a few Yanks with hits on the day. Mason Williams extended his hitting streak to four consecutive games and his second consecutive game with two hits.
Ben Gamel, Zach Wilson, Anderson Feliz, Carmen Angelini, Francisco Arcia and Cody Grice all had hits. Arcia was the lone run of the game when he hit a solo homerun in the top of the 5th to put the T-Yanks on the board.
O’Brien pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs; striking out 4. John Brebbia pitched the remaining 3 1/3 innings with just 1 hit and struck out 2.
With a final score of 3-1, the Tampa Yankees lose their second consecutive contest and tie the series with the Lakeland Flying Tigers (2-2).
The Tampa Yankees are now (2-2) on the season and will begin their next series on Tuesday after an off day on Monday against the Dunedin Blue Jays at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin.
