T.G.I. Friday’s restaurants will give away a half-million burgers and sandwiches at its restaurants in Upstate New York and elsewhere -- if, that is, its “No. 1 fan” a half-million Facebook fans by Sept. 30.

The "fan" is a fictional character named Woody. The freebie coupons will go to the first 500,000 people who become Woody’s fan on the Facebook social-networking website. Fans must register online to receive a coupon for the free Jack Daniel’s burger or Jack Daniel’s chicken sandwich.

T.G.I. Friday’s, a division of Carlson Restaurants Worldwide, has more than 900 restaurants in 60 countries, including about 600 restaurants in the United States.
