In South Jersey on Wednesday night to discuss his latest best-selling novel, "Instinct," Bishop T. D. Jakes spoke to a packed house at Bethany Baptist Church. Pastor and moderator for the evening, Bishop David G. Evans greeted Jakes amid rousing applause from the audience. In his welcome, Evans stated that he was excited to have Bishop Jakes at his church to discuss the book because instinct was, "Such an important principle for us to understand."
The two proceeded to engage in an hour-long discussion regarding the inspiration behind and principles of the book followed by a question and answer period, where questions were taken from audience members both in the church and via online live stream.
At its core, the book is designed to help people discover their authentic drive and a live a life that aligns with their innate, natural talents. Bishop Jakes shared with the audience that he'd never seen so many young people, 30 and under, tired and dissatisfied. According to him, "If you do what you have to do, rather than what you are created to do, it drains you. When you do what you were created to do, it invigorates you."
Subtitled "The Power to Unleash Your Inborn Drive," "Instinct" was released in May 2014 and is on its fifth re-printing to date. It has spent all six weeks since its release on the New York Times Best Sellers Advice and Miscellaneous list, and currently sits at number two.
