According to CBC Sports, Shannon Szabados of Edmonton, Alberta will be the starting goaltender for Canada on Thursday in the women's hockey gold medal game against the United States.

The decision is an interesting one by Team Canada head coach Kevin Dineen because Charline Labonte of Greenfield Park, Quebec was outstanding in Canada's 3-2 victory over the United States in the round robin.

However Szabados was the goaltender for Team Canada in the gold medal game of the women's hockey tournament of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, a game where Szabados made 28 saves in a 2-0 Canada victory over the United States.

Szabados also was marvelous in a pre-Olympic women's exhibition game against the United States at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary this past December, recorded 14 saves for a 3-0 shutout win against Finland in the round robin of the Olympic women's hockey tournament and got the start in Canada's 3-1 win over Switzerland in the women's Olympic hockey semi-final game on Monday.
