"So You Think You Can Dance" 2013 resumed Aug. 27 on FOX with a night of performances by the top six finalists. One of the evening's best moments came as season-long fan favorites Amy Yakima and Fik-Shun Stegall rekindled their partnership to deliver a spot-on Dave Scott hip hop routine that brought the judges to their feet.
During their rehearsal segment, the newly reunited pair learned they'd be performing a shopping-themed number with an "aggressive" and "sexy" twist. The dance was, in fact, so hard-hitting that Fik-Shun even managed to break a chair.
When they hit the "SYTYCD" stage to perform live, Amy and Fik-Shun didn't disappoint. From the outset, their movements to Usher's "Lemme See" were sharp, precise and bold, and though she's a contemporary dancer, Amy kept pace with Fik-Shun brilliantly and the two created a memorable moving picture.
Show co-creator and judge Nigel Lythgoe appreciated their "wonderful chemistry." He praised Amy for being sexy in an understated fashion, drawing a distinction between her presentation and the trashy iteration that pop star Miley Cyrus delivered during her 2013 VMA performance. Mary Murphy said she was pleased to see "the dream team" back together, and marveled over how dance is Amy's "pulse." She assured Fik-Shun that his presence on "SYTYCD" made complete sense. Last to speak was guest judge Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who called Fik-Shun a "mega star" before speaking of Amy's diminutive stature and quipping "you're small enough to go in my pocket and I just love that."
At show's end, Paul Karmiryan and Hayley Erbert were sent packing as a result of the Aug. 20 vote, which secured spots in the top four for both Amy and Fik-Shun. Contestants snagging the final two berths were tapper Aaron Turner and contemporary artist Jasmine Harper.
