"So You Think You Can Dance" 2013 resumed Aug. 20 on FOX with a set of performances by the top eight finalists and their all-star partners. Although each pair turned in a striking display of creativity on stage, it was Amy Yakima and "SYTYCD" season two alum and choreographer Travis Wall who stole the show with a powerful contemporary routine that left the judges heartily singing their praises.
During the newly-formed duo's rehearsal segment, Travis confessed to being "so excited" to be able to join forces with the bubbly Amy. He explained that the pair's contemporary routine would focus on the "games we play" when starting new relationships, and Amy elaborated, noting that the dance featured "a lot of push and pull... a constant tease between us."
Amy and Travis hit the "SYTYCD" stage to perform last, and their "Wicked Game" number definitely didn't disappoint. A series of incredible injury-defying lifts and turns showed off each dancer's raw strength, and they worked together to support one another with the trust and expertise of a long-term couple.
The judges and the audience in attendance rewarded the effort with a standing ovation. Guest Jenna Elfman called Amy "an angel" and said the world was a better place because she and Travis exist. Show co-creator Nigel Lythgoe called the routine "very, very special" and "beautiful," and predicted that Travis' talent as a choreographer would help him to exceed his own "wildest dreams." Finally, Mary Murphy said that though she enjoyed what she termed Amy's previous "cutesy" dances, she really appreciated her new found "maturity." She finished up the critiques by declaring "I don't think anybody has gone to where you went tonight."
The panelists weren't alone in their praise for Amy and Travis, and several show alums took to Twitter to express their appreciation shortly following the live broadcast. Season 10 finalist Brittany Cherry tweeted "So proud of my twinny roomy @Dance10Amy! So inspired by @travISova piece tonight. Couldn't have been a more perfect match, so beautiful!" Amy and Brittany's fellow finalist Jasmine Mason expressed a like-sentiment, writing "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! @Dance10Amy and @travISova that was unnnrrrrreeeaaaal. #wow #imafan"
