A gross video of Syrian rebels executing 7 Syrian soldiers has been obtained by the New York Times, prompting yet more unsettled debate regarding the conditions in Syria and what the response of the United States and the world should be, according to the New York Times on Thursday.
According to the report, the Syrian rebels captured the prisoners who were Syrian soldiers. It was like a ritual as one of the rebels recited a revolutionary verse including the words, by English translation:
For fifty years, they are companions to corruption. We swear to the Lord of the Throne, that this is our oath: We will take revenge.
As the shirtless men were on the ground on their knees with their faces pressed into the dirt, five of the seven marked with red welts on their backs, the commander of the rebels known as “the Uncle” fired a bullet into the back of one of the prisoner’s head. The calm-appearing gunmen followed the commander’s lead and killed all of the men knelt before them.
The video which was shot in the spring of 2012 was snuck out of Syria several days ago by a former rebel who became disgustingly disturbed by the killings which show that the rebels of the Syrian government are using the same horrendous tactics as the government they are attempting to overthrow in Syria.
The release of the video comes as the United States debates whether it will support President Barack Obama as he proposes that Syrian forces should be attacked for having used chemical warfare against its citizens. The debate now includes the question as to whether U.S. support in Syria will also support some of the criminal rebels and those that are allied with al-Qaeda.
The video is just one of the pieces of evidence that shows the criminal environment that has gone on for more than two years in Syria’s civil war.
