Reuters reported yesterday that Russia had offered the Syrian government the proposition to hand over their chemical weapons over to international control in order to avert any proposed American military action against them. They reported:“Lavrov said: "If the establishment of international control over chemical weapons ... makes it possible to avoid strikes, then we will immediately get to work with Damascus."
Today’s agreement between the Syrian and Russian governments, according MSN News, was quickly agreed upon by the Syrian government’s representative Walid al-Moallem, in order to stop American aggression towards Syria.
According to CNN, this agreement to allow international control of the Syrian chemical weapons could change America’s military plans. The news site reported that the agreement had changed the atmosphere of thought from one of military strike to that of questioning whether there was a viable diplomatic way out of the situation.
The question of what will happen next in the Syrian situation hopefully will be answered in the next few days. Especially if President Barack Obama manages to persuade the American public and the Congress to his point of view.
