Syracuse downs Duke in overtime and gains the new number one ranking

Syracuse stamped themselves as the new beast of the ACC with a riveting overtime win over traditional ACC bosses Duke at the Carrier Dome yesterday. Senior CJ Fair led the way as SU pounded it inside and removed Dukes big men only to see the threes rain down to keep the Blue Devils in the game. It was a three at the buzzer that forced the game into overtime as SU failed to foul in time.

Syracuse will be the new #1 ranked team in college basketball as they welcome Notre Dame to the Dome on Monday night as the old Big East/new ACC continues to take shape with former Big East teams making themselves known. Arizona, the former #1, fell last night to California.

In game being called “One for the Ages” it lived up to all the pre-game hype as close friends and the two coaches who define success went toe-to-toe in what Boeheim called the best college game the Dome has ever seen. Duke rained 15-three pointers on the Orange, Rakeem Christmas blocked 6 shots, 7 points, and 10 rebounds. Fair had 28 points while super-sophmore Grant had 24 and 12 rebounds.

Next up is Notre Dame (12-10, 3-6 ACC) at 7:00 PM.
