Sylvester Stallone checks in for back surgery

Sylvester Stallone, who injured his neck during the filming of The Expendables, announced via Twitter that he is in need of more surgery. “Be gone for little while,” the Tweet reads, “need some back surgery. The check finally came due.”

In January 2010 Stallone revealed that he suffered a hairline fracture in his neck. He was quoted in the New York Daily News at the time. “My fight with Stone Cold Steve Austin was so vicious that I ended up getting a hairline fracture in my neck. I'm not joking."

Action movies have been Stallone’s stock in trade from the very beginning. Starting with Rocky and continuing right through to The Expendables. Initially, it appeared that Sly didn’t relish drawing attention to the injury. "I haven't told anyone this, but I had to have a very serious operation afterwards. I now have a metal plate in my neck."

But he was also quick to point out that even in his 60’s, he’s still got game. “Stunt guys were begging for mercy” NYDN reported. Now with his current surgery, he offers a reassuring note. “I'll be alright,” the Twitter entry reads, “the pleasure of success was worth the price.”
