The Expendables return this August in another major blockbuster. Sylvester Stallone and his crew of action heroes are set to return in The Expendables 3. This time, the group takes on a former Expendables member in the form of Mel Gibson. In order to take on someone who knows all of their moves, the Expendables must recruit new members in order to take on this new threat. The film will certainly feature a lot of action, but there seems to be a major this time around. In a new report today from the MPAA, The Expendables 3 will be rated PG-13.
This may come as a surprise to many moviegoers. In past two outings of The Expendables, the action films have been rated R. The movie series have been known for their action; action so intense that the movie was been to gain that R rating. Now that the movie is PG-13, some moviegoers may be wondering, how will this rating change this upcoming film? It may surprise some fans out there, but this downgrade in the rating may not effect The Expendables at all.
Aside from some intense action sequences and perhaps a few curse words, there is not a major reason why The Expendables series is rated R. While this is just a guess, perhaps the reasons why The Expendables has been R is because it is a call back to the action stars' previous films; as many of them just so happen to receive that rating for intense violence. That being said, this change could just be a case where the movie was only rated because of the time it was made (despite the fact that The Expendables hit theaters in 2010). Then again, maybe the filmmakers have made a major change this time around. Perhaps The Expendables' action has been toned down. The only to know that is to find out and see the film for yourself.
The upcoming action movie stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Kellan Lutz, Ronda Rousey, Victor Ortiz, Glen Powell and Kelsey Grammer.
What do you think about this rating? Do you think it will play a major impact in the film's quality? Express your feelings in the comments below. The Expendables 3 hits theaters on August 15th.
