Sylar Newton latest news: Presumed dead toddler abused prior to disappearance, say witnesses

On Friday, authorities released a search warrant that reveals information regarding 2-year-old Sylar Newton’s life prior to his disappearance in July. The toddler’s presumed remains were discovered August 10 in a wash near the campsite from where Sylar vanished.

According to AZ Central, Judge Mary Hamm signed a warrant on July 25 that allowed the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office to search property belonging to Sylar’s custodial mother, Christina Priem, and her mother Nancy Collins.

Priem, her son and daughter, her mother, and a 14-year-old family friend had been visiting Beaver Creek campgrounds with Sylar on the night he vanished.

The warrant indicates that other campers had seen Priem or Collins being “verbally abusive” to Sylar, even going so far as to push him to the ground “because he could not find his shoes.” Between 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. witnesses said Sylar was crying, but was silent after that time.

Additionally, Priem’s 11-year-old daughter told authorities that earlier in the afternoon she saw the 2-year-old staggering and later could not get him to wake up.

The young family friend also told investigators that he had heard Sylar had gotten into Collins’ “lockbox” and swallowed a muscle relaxant. Collins reportedly told detectives that “she knew of another time when Sylar had ingested her medication. She said her lockbox was kept in her car, but other family members told detectives it could have been in the tent,” according to AZ Central.

The warrant notes that Collins admitted she had smoked marijuana the day Sylar vanished.

The Flagstaff Police Department sent records to the local sheriff indicating that Priem and her mother have a long history of drug abuse, assault, child neglect, and abuse.

A reward of $3,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in Sylar’s death. Anyone with information is urged to call Yavapai Silent Witness at 800-932-3232.

Why does Welfare and Social services make it possible for these people to live like they do? Neglecting their illegitimate kids, only collecting $$ off them? It is an outrage!
