So it’s been nearly two weeks since most Americans rung in the New Year and returned from their holiday vacations. With the networks taking their sweet time returning to a normal schedule where they are probably tweaking their program schedules and making way for awards season fresh TV is ready to be consumed by starving viewers. Syfy is launching their popular programing block, “Powerful Mondays” tonight. It’s been awhile since the network has lined up a full night of strong programs.
Starting at 8 p.m. is the U.S. premiere of the sci-fi series “Continuum” staring Rachel Nichols (Criminal Minds), Victor Webster (Mutant X, Charmed) and Tony Amendola (Stargate SG-1). Nichols plays detective Kiera Cameron from 70 years in the future who is accidentally sent back in time along with a group of terrorists who are hell bent on destroying the future by changing history to suit their agenda. Kiera’s mission is to capture the fugitives from the future and find a way to return to her own time. While in the past Kiera poses as a Portland Police detective and gets help from a computer genius who actually created some of technology she brought back from the future. Think ‘Time Cop” meets “Criminal Minds”, its story line is very fluid with lots of twists and turns. The first season aired last year on Canada’s Showcase network, so U.S. viewers will be playing a little catch up; which seems to be the case with most good Sci-fi shows from north of the border.
Syfy’s “Powerful Mondays” continues with a returning favorite; the season three premiere of “Being Human” at 9 p.m. This is another terrific show which happens to have originated in UK which centers on the friendship between a vampire, werewolf and a ghost.
10 p.m. on Syfy is the third season premiere of “Lost Girl,” the super sexy series with Anna Silk as a kick ass Succubus who refuses to declare if she is good or evil Fae. The series which is imported from Canada has some really intense sex scenes with some being same sex as Silk’s character happens to be bi-sexual; will probably get toned down on Syfy. There was some internet discussions stating that Syfy’s editing seemed to be random and possible for time. “Lost Girl” could easily be confused with a series meant for premium cable. Tonight’s episode picks up after epic battle that left the Light Fae without an Ashe. A familiar face on the canvas with step into leadership left vacant from the previous season.
Syfy’s “Powerful Mondays” kick off tonight at 8 p.m. on Comcast channels 74/874 and AT&T U-Verse channels 151/1151.
