Sydney FC get vital win

Sydney FC got a crucial win for their season as they managed to defeat Perth Glory 2-1 at the Sydney Football Stadium on Saturday night.

Perth started the better team but it was Sydney FC who had the first real chance as Joel Chianese sent a wonderful ball for Bruno Cazarine, who was put under pressure and couldn't score.

Liam Reddy was dropped after recent poor performances, allowing Ivan Necevski to start, and he was allowed an easy introduction as Josh Risdon miscued straight in to the hands of the keeper with Perth's first chance.

The keepers had a fairly easy few minutes as both sides managed to reach their opponents goal but put poor shots on goal allowing the keeper a simple save.

In the 23rd minute Necevski had to come to the rescue twice in 30 seconds the first off of Shane Smeltz after a wonderful cross from Dean Heffernan, and the second was spectacular, denying Travis Dodd with a wonderful save.

Steven McGarry came the closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half but he sent his glancing header just wide and the half ended scoreless.

Brett Emerton broke this match wide open in the second half after Cazarine released Karol Kisel, Kisel was then able to send a ball for Emerton at the top of the box allowing him to control and then unleash a bullet strike to put SYdney FC in front.

Sydney FC continued to attack, having three good chances in three minutes but the Perth Glory defense held Sydney FC back well.

Emerton was also crucial in Sydney FC's winner as he sent in a pinpoint cross for Cazarine who sent in a nice powerful header in the 72nd minute to double Sydney FC's lead.

It was a nervous finish for Sydney FC as Billy Mehmet managed to score four minutes from time but Sydney FC managed to hold on for a 2-1 victory keeping them in the top six.
