Sycamore Pumpkin Festival kicks off October 27th

In ten days, the little ghouls and goblins will come knocking at your door for their loot. With the approach of Halloween, comes one of Sycamore IL's most prized traditions: Pumpkin Fest 2010.

Pumpkin Fest 2010 will kick off on October 27th and run thru October 31st. The opening ceremony will start at 5pm on the courthouse lawn. It will include the ceremony for cutting the giant cake that is donated by Brown's County Market.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Thursday October 28th:

  • Sycamore Kiwanis will host a prayer breakfast begining at 7am at the Sycamore United Methodist Church (160 Johnson Ave)
  • The display of pumpkins can be viewed on the lawn of the Dekalb County Courthouse located on the corner of State Street and Rt 64(all days the festival is open)
  • There will be a teen carnival from 5pm until 10pm at State and Sacramento streets. From 5-9pm wristbands will be $20.00 for unlimited teen carnival rides.
  • Scary stories will be told in the Children's department of the Sycamore Public Library, located across the street from the courthouse, at 7pm. Ages 3 thru adult

Friday, October 29th:

  • Craft show from Noon to 5:30. Hosted by and located at the Sycamore united Methodist Church.
  • Heartland Blood Center will be holding a blood drivefrom 1-5pm on South Maple sTreet
  • Teen carnival is open from 5-11pm
  • The Kiddie Carnival for young children will be held from 5pm until closing. Located at Somonauk and Elm streets

Saturday, October 30th:

  • Rotary pancake breakfast from 7am until 11am at the Federated Chruch located at 612 W State street
  • Pumpkin patch Baton Contest from 9am-4pm in the gym at Sycamore Middle School
  • The Lions Club giant-pumpkin weigh in begins at 10am on the courthouse lawn.
  • A beef burger luncheon will be served from 10am-6pm by church members at Bethel Assembly of God. Located at 131 W Elm Street.
  • Magican Dave Hill will perform from noon until 3pm at the courthouse.
  • Sycamore Library will host Scary Stories at 6pm at Elmwood Cemetery. Located at 901 S Cross Street

Sunday ,October 31st:

  • Pre-parade entertainment will be provided by "Circus Boy" Bobby Hunt and Juggler Jason Kollum on Stilts from 11am until 1pm downtown along the parade route.
  • The Pumpkin Parade will begin at 1pm. at the corner of Exchange and Main streets. The parade route follows Somonauk, Elm, California, State and Main.
  • A Halloween costume contest and monster bash for children ages 2-12 will be helf from 4 to 6p, at Sycamore Middle School.This free event is sponsored by the Sycamore Park District
