SxSW music preview: Austin bands are gearing up for the festival next month

Austin, Texas has always been a special place for music. From the city's humble beginnings, art, music and culture have been woven into the fabric of resident's lives. Next month Austin renews the tradition of throwing open the gates of the Live Music Capital to the rest of the world to see. It is called, SxSW Interactive, Film and Music Festival. Whew. We get tired just saying the name, let alone trudging across downtown for 10 days chasing after the elusive new sound it seems all are seeking.

For local bands, SxSW has always been a bittersweet experience. Many bands apply to appear in an official showcase, few are chosen to perform. Those who do make it have an intense week of performances, traffic, crowds and chaos to deal with in their own backyard. It's enough to make most local musicians dread carrying their amp through a throng of music fans on Sixth Street while they load-in gear for a gig. Even with all those negatives, everyone wants to play Sx.

We compiled a list of Austin acts that have been chosen to perform by SxSW. It is not yet complete, may contain errors and is by no means an official list. We recommend visiting SxSW.com to get accurate, detailed information about all things Sx.
