SXSW (also known as South By) is many things to many people. Some think of it as a music scene, others focus on the films while others come for the technology and interactive events. There is something for everyone. For educators, Education Expo will be an experience to remember!

Many think of crowds and traffic and parking woes and more crowds, but like all great things, they usually come at a price. It is a high energy experience with so much to see and do and learn! There are many parking garages in the area for those with cars and a great mass transit system for the rest. Worried about leaving the festival site to forage for food? No worries. There are food trailers and plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Stop by the Peached Tortilla food truck for example. Culinary delights await that will please even the most persnickety palate. Austin is home to some of the most fabulous gastronomical adventures in the world!

What some fail to realize is that there is an Education Expo in tandem with the festival that provides a platform for the newest educational trends and pedagogy as well as a wonderful networking opportunity among other things. Administrators who have attended know that it is the best of an educational conference/convention with unlimited opportunities for professional development. Why send your teachers away to train in other cities and spend unnecessary funds when they can receive what they need right here at home while supporting the Austin economy as an added perk!

SXSWedu 2014 Education Expo provides a collaborative community environment for learners of all ages to explore their immediate and long-term education and career goals. With hands-on, interactive exhibits, the Education Expo offers attendees the opportunity to engage with local education initiatives as well as the educational and career choices with which they are most intrigued.

There is a surge of entrepreneurial energy in the education market generating a growing demand for collaboration between the developers and the educators adopting new innovative products and services. The Startup Showcase, hosted by Blackboard, is a networking event that spotlights emerging education startups and provides an opportunity for attendees to connect one-on-one with the entrepreneurs, demo new products and services and provide real time feedback in a casual atmosphere.

Education Expo Highlights:
• Future Plans, a re-imagined college and career fair driven by students' interests in finding and fueling their individual passion.
• STEM Central, highlighting local science fair winners and education tools for next generation learning.
• School District Installations, supporting public school districts connecting and engaging with the community.
• Informal Learning including after school programs, online programs and summer camps.
• Continuing Education for adults interested in expanding their skill set for a rapidly evolving economy.
