SXSW anticipation part 1

In T – 10 days, one of the biggest music festivals this side of the western hemisphere is set to take over your media, Twitter, and Facebook newsfeeds. South by Southwest is a music, film, and interactive festival held yearly in Austin, Texas. The music portion features up and coming and established artists on stage, during panels, and more in dozens of showcases, sessions, and parties throughout the week. Although the entire festival lasts from March 7th – 16th, music begins halfway through on the 11th and ends on the 16th. See below and through March for some artists to watch whether or not you’ll be celebrating with the rest of us in Texas this year.

Astr
A duo hailing from the mean streets of New York City, Astr finds a home in smooth-wave electronic styles. Zoe’s unique voice pairs perfectly with Adam’s penchant for keys and old school tunes. The duo just released their debut, Varsity EP, in January with Neon Gold records. Their “Hold on We’re Going Home” Drake cover shows just how talented the two are; taking a massive hip-hop song and turning it on its head. Astr is a huge contender to the scene and is sure to blow some minds this year on stage.

Hozier
With a silky, deep, and soulful voice touched by slight Iron & Wine influences, Hozier has quietly attracted a dedicated following with his spooky, dark single, “Take me to Church.” If you don’t get the chills as he repeatedly sings ‘amen,’ you’re not doing it right. Andrew Hozier-Byrne may be new to the scene, but he no doubt will draw a massive SXSW crowd, ready to be taken away from reality while he performs. Don’t sleep on this.
