The film is an adaptation of Larry Brown’s gritty novel.

Its directed by David Gordon Green, who takes Academy Award winner Cage back to his indie roots in the title role as the hard-living, hot-tempered, ex-con Joe Ransom, who is just trying to dodge his instincts for trouble – until he meets a hard-luck kid, (Tye Sheridan from "Mud") who awakens in him a fierce and tender-hearted protector.

The screenplay was written by Gary Hawkins, a former Mississippi firefighter renowned for his powerful, gothic storytelling and universal themes of honor, desperation and moral rectitude.

"Joe" screens Sunday, March 9 at 2:30pm in the Paramount Theatre and Thursday, March 13 at 6:30pm in the Topfer Theatre at ZACH.

The film will be released in theaters and On Demand April 11.
