Switching it up on 'Dancing with the Stars' a success

This is almost like the concept of square dancing with switching up partners, only on a much extended level. Monday night was the first time in “Dancing with the Stars” history where celebrities were all partnered with different pro dancers. These newly formed partnerships were chosen by fans via social media on Twitter.

On paper this sounded like a doomed venture, yet it was an unexpected surprise and rousing success. It seemed a number of celebrities fared better with their new partners, while some others were better off with their original ones.

Regarding the latter, Candace Cameron Bure and Tony Dovolani were the first couple to start off the show. It was obviously a mismatch simply by receiving the lowest scores of the night.

Returning guest judge, and two-time “Dancing with the Stars” champion, Julianne Hough said to Maks Chmerkovskiy and Danica McKellar their performance looked like it was phoned in. Danica spent more time away from Maks dancing with members of the troupe instead. As is Maks’ style he begged to differ with Julianne.

The most surprising switch-up partners was the oldest celebrity and the youngest pro dancer, Drew Carey and Witney Carson. She completely turned Drew into a lean, mean dancing machine. It was hard to believe this was the same Drew from last week.

James Maslow and Cheryl Burke were literally on fire with a smoking hot tango. The choreography, costumes, set, and music were brilliant. They received the second highest score 35 out of 40.

It was the fans on Twitter who spoke the loudest for their fantasy partnership of Meryl Davis and Val Chmerkovskiy. They received the most votes and it paid off beautifully. Meryl shined with Mak’s kid brother Val.

Their Argentine tango was breath-taking and magnificent. Talk about deja vu, because they received 3 perfect score of 10’s, including one from tough judge Julianne Hough. Head judge Len Goodman held out and gave them a nine. They had the highest score of 39 out of 40.

Naturally there was no elimination due to the switch-up week. Be on the lookout next Monday for another celebrity going home.
