Mainstream alternative rock music group who made it big on the Christian music scene, Switchfoot, is scheduled to be one of the O’Fallon 2014 Heritage Freedom Fest concerts, on July 4. The concert will take place at the Ozzie Smith Sports Complex and is part of the larger festivities which include fireworks, Kids’ Zone activities, and other family friendly activities.
Where else can you take in such great music, family fun, and fireworks all at no cost? Food and beverages will also be available for sale, so come prepared to spend the entire day in celebration of America’s freedoms.
Switchfoot made their way onto the music scene with Christian lyrics, and quickly merged into the mainstream of alternative rock. This switch is not always done gracefully, but for this group of musicians who got their name from a surfing term, made it look like a natural progression.
The festival begins on July 2, with carnival rides and a midway family night. Other highlights include local merchandise vendors, food and drink booths, the Kent Family Circus, the Strong Man and an Interactive Remote Control Racing event. Other bands will take the stage, starting July 3 with a country music night featuring Chris Cagle and JT Hodges.
On Independence Day, Switchfoot will be one of three bands to perform. The other two are Survivor and BoDeans. Admission and parking are free, with a free shuttle to and from the event, so come early to be sure to get a great seat. Bring your lawn chairs or blanket, as other seating is limited.
