The exciting rock band Switchfoot makes an Albuquerque appearance at an intimate and historic venue tomorrow night. The Historic El Rey Theater (fresh off an eclectic benefit show to help Haiti earthquake relief) will host the San Diego based band at 7 PM on February 23 at the downtown locale (Central near 7th).
Switchfoot has long been known for their spiritually enlightened music and their Christian beliefs are upheld in their actions as they support a number of social justice and charitable efforts. At the show Tuesday night donations will be accepted for the Road Runner Food Bank to help the hungry in New Mexico.
Switchfoot has effectively reached out to alternative/pop/rock music lovers without being preachy, yet their lyrics are insightful and hopeful. One of their most popular songs, Dare You to Move (see a song reflection I wrote about it a few years ago), includes the lyrics:
Maybe redemption has stories to tell
Maybe forgiveness is right where you fell
Where can you run to escape from yourself?
Where you gonna go?
Where you gonna go?
Salvation is here
This band has received widespread critical aclaim and awards and released 8 platinum albums to date. Currently they are on tour in support of their current album, Hello Hurricane. They've played arenas and large venues, so the opportunity to see them in a smaller theater like the El Rey should be treasured.
The concert is an all ages event and will feature Paper Tongues as the opening act. Tickets can be purchased for $25 in advance and $30 at the door the night of the show. Advance tickets can be purchased with cash only at Bookworks, Encore Music, Birdland, Bibles Plus on Wyoming, Parchment bookstore @ Calvary of ABQ on Osuna, Sagebrush Community Church, Legacy, & First Family. You can also buy tickets with your credit or debit card by calling 1-866-I-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), and at www.GetTix.net. Service charge, facility fee, and/or handling fee may apply for advance tickets. Doors will be at 6:30 PM and the show will begin at 7:00 PM.
